Explore the frontiers of imagination and faith! Whitby Youtheatre is a faith-based community drama program for youth in grades 9-12. Teen participants embark on an in-depth journey into the world of theatre, in a faith context. Through the use of professional exercises, students gain practical knowledge in the fundamentals of acting, and creating short scenes. Participants will learn voice, movement, text, improvisation, writing, and other self-expression. The youth will learn excellent teamwork skills, practice genuine respect for self and others, and gain the benefits of great encouragement all while growing their confidence. These skills and attributes will help improve the teens abilities to speak in front of crowds as well as helping to increase their confidence in job interviews and presentations. It will allow the youth to exercise their creativity and it provides a unique opportunity for them to experience the arts in a way that is both fulfilling and rewarding, and to engage with stories about faith in a way they have never encountered them before.
The program culminates in a presentation for family, friends, neighbours, and whomever enjoys a fun evening supporting the arts and the youth in their community. That showcase will take place on December 1st, 2012 at 7:00 p.m. Cost is $10 for each of the workshops leading up to the performance. For more details or to register visit www.whitbyyoutheatre.com
